Activities and Benefits

We have monthly meetings and lectures, workshops, we participate in community outreach projects, and host an occasional Quilt Show and Day of Sharing. Many of our members belong to Quilting Bees, participate in our Quilt Challenges and make use of our extensive library. Members also receive our monthly newsletter, "Quilting Times", which can also be found on this website. You will also receive discounts from local quilt shops for being a guild member.

The Guild’s community outreach efforts include neonatal quilts year-round for Nash General Hospital and Heritage Hospital; Patriotic Quilts for wounded soldiers, adoption quilts, and various other charity/outreach venues throughout the year. Maryann Rettino, Sandy Harris & Gayle Helm head up our community outreach.

Mission statement

Tar River Piecemakers Quilting Guild was founded in 2000 by a group of 9 women (Helen Alston, Carolyn Batts, Rachel Cowley, Susie Crumpler, Sue Fry, Louise Janelle, Ann Layton, Ramona Orzell & Teresa Pierce) to promote their love of quilt-making and to provide fellowship with other quilters. Our main purpose as a non-profit organization is to promote and perpetuate the art of quilting. The work of the Guild is designed to benefit and educate all persons interested in preserving, continuing and advancing this art. Our challenge is to encourage continuing interest in the art in all its forms and to promote the art by teaching and sponsoring workshops and exhibits.
