Jane's Visit to Walter Reed Hospital!

Jane Privette made a trip to Walter Reed Hospital to donate quilts to the Red Cross and to present a special soldier with a quilt made by the Busy Bee's.  Here is part of Jane's story of her trip to Walter Reed Hospital to see Michael Beck:

When I left the hospital, I just cried all the way back to the car. Richard, my husband, just walked silently and let me have my time, thanking God for these men and women we saw. They just brought in 24 more amputees today from Iraq. But on a lighter note, Michael is doing good, he looked so much better than in January. He and the dr. decided to amputate his other leg on June 29th so please mark that as a special prayer day. They removed the plate causing all the staff infection, but bone won't heal without it either. This young man has undergone over 50 operations in the 14 months since he has been injured. God has spared him for a reason, believe me. We also met many wonderful, supportive volunteers and other parents being their child's cheerleader for wellness as well as spouses. It is like family up there, after all, you share a bond like no other. We delivered the quilts to the Red Cross (This was the hospital 's request) within the hospital, directing them to give them to soldiers. They asked about spouses who spend the night sitting by the bedside of their loved one. I explained most were not wrap up size, only wheelchair size. (A thought for you who like to make throws) They were so appreciative. Those pictures will also be posted today. We plan to go again in July to check on his progress. After the 29th he will have to be back in the amputee ward (right now he is in the Mologne House- like a motel room with small kitchen, where his mom can stay with him) until he is thru with all surgery and fitted for another prothesis. He is getting a new ankle today for his other prothesis, one with a shock in it so it will helpl with balance and walking more naturally. His 22nd birthday is the 25th and he plans to come home to celebrate for the first time in 5 years (has been away for army training, in Iraq or the hospital for previous 4 birthdays. But goes back Sunday night to prep for Monday. So thanks again for all who took the time to make a quilt, I sewed a label on each that said "made for you with love and appreciation for your sacrifice, Tar River Piecemakers Quilting Guild, Rocky Mount, NC".  You are the best! Jane
